Land Steward

Current need in Durham, Eastford, Tolland, Woodstock, and Willington
Land Stewards are ambassadors of CFPA who convey an appreciation of the conserved land and act as a friendly face who can respond to general questions and direct landowners and neighbors to the appropriate staff member with complex questions. Creating and maintaining a good relationship between CFPA, the landowner, and the neighbors of the property is the number one priority of this position.
Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Visit assigned property with the Land Stewardship Director to become trained as a Land Steward
  • Walk the boundaries of the assigned property at least once a year
  • Complete and return the Annual Land Steward Report Form
  • Report any problems observed to the CFPA office
  • Possibility of some land use management such as brush clearing, invasive species removal, or trail building or maintenance
Time Commitment: 
Ongoing as desired; Committed to visiting a determined location annually
Desired Skills or Experience: 
  • Willingness and ability to visit an assigned property at least once a year
  • Self-motivated and organized
  • Experience with GPS technology is helpful
  • Map reading and invasive species identification experience preferred
