The Shenipsit Striders have been supporting the Connecticut Forest & Park Association (CFPA) and the Blue-Blazed Hiking Trails since 2005. At their annual gathering on Sunday, November 30, 2014, the Striders donated $3,000 to support CFPA’s mission to protect forests, parks, and trails for future generations. Jim Little, CFPA’s Development Director, accepted the check on behalf of the Association. Since 2005, the club has donated over $11,000 to CFPA.
The Shenipsit Striders are a running club whose members share a joy of being in the woods. Their membership ranges from walkers and fitness runners to athletes competing in trail races, road races, orienteering and adventure races, snowshoe races, and more ranging from sprints all the way up to ultra-marathon distance events.
The club sponsors a trail 24km and concurrent 6km trail sampler in May, a grueling trail hill assault in the summer, a trail marathon in the fall (a classic event at a new time of year), and a moonlight fun run in the winter.
