The new REI store at Corbin’s Corner in West Hartford opened the last weekend in April and it was an outstanding – and crazy – event. The pre-opening featured comments by CFPA’s Executive Director, Eric Hammerling, and Governor Malloy. The next three days featured a festival atmosphere - including gear vendors, food trucks, and CFPA. Some 200 to 600 people showed up each day to hang out before the store opened.
CFPA was the designated beneficiary for the weekend event and we want to thank REI for generating $13,500 to protect trails and support advocacy efforts. REI gave CFPA a $7,000 grant to support the Constitutional Amendment to Protect Sate Lands. Hanging Hills Brewing Company raised $4,500 in donations in exchange for a beer cup. Vibram raised $1,000 by donating the process of their resoling program done on site. Thank you to all those who helped make the weekend a success!
