The 77 acre Mortimer Wright Preserve purchased by the Town of Groton in 1989 abuts other Town lands and connects trails in Haley Farm State Park to those in the The Merritt Family Forest (GOSA) via the X-Town Trail. Deep open woodlands overlay an extensive glacial moraine and offer a wide, flat trail suitable for an easy hike. If you take the trail which branches to the left you can go up through a rugged area on top of the moraine and eventually enter the The Merritt Family Forest. The Mortimer Wright Preserve is part of the X-Town Trail, a six mile trail that connects Bluff Point State Park to Towns End.
