Rock Stars Trail Crew

What is a Rock Star?

Nickelback may have had it right!  “I Want to be a Rock Star”. OK, so maybe they had something different in mind, but you too can have a chance to be a rock star.  How you ask?  By joining our CFPA volunteer group appropriately called “The Rock Stars”.  What’s in a name?  Well, exactly what we do…work with rock structures on the hiking trails in CT.  That includes building stairs, retaining walls, brook crossings, and more... all using rocks from the surrounding area.

I won’t lie to you, its' a lot of work. And its physical work too. But it is super satisfying because there is an engineering aspect that requires a lot of brain muscle too.  Not only do you have to figure out where to build the structures, but the best way to build them to insure that they are functional, attractive, fit in with the landscape and are built to last!  See, just when you thought it was all grunt work, it turns out it takes some clever folks to plot it out and build it right.

Oh, and did I mention the other fun thing?  You get to play with and set up some mighty cool equipment. Sure, there’s the mundane things like picks, shovels, rock bars…but how about the winches, shackles, Amsteel ...  Haven’t heard of these? Then you would have fun learning how to use this equipment too. And if that wasn't enough awesomeness, you also get to learn about new trails around the state, and have fun working with a great group of volunteers and the awesome staff at CFPA.

So come on and try us out.  It's a great opportunity to meet new friends and give back to your fellow hikers in this great state of CT.  Besides which, don’t we all just want to be a Rock Star!!
