NET Fall Hike Series- Mattabesett Trail, Beseck Ridge
Winter Hike on the Mattabesett section of the New England Trail. This will be a 10-mile one-way moderately-fast paced one-way hike. We will hike over Higby Mountain, and then Beseck Mountain with views of Beseck Lake and Black Pond.
The trail has a series of climbs and descents. Hiking poles are recommended to provide stability over the uneven terrain and the stream crossings. With the distance, steep terrain, and early sunset, this is definitely not a hike for beginning or out of shape hikers. Since this is a one-way hike, there are no short cuts and participants need to be prepared to hike the entire distance.
Meet at 9:00 a.m. to car spot at 9:15 a.m. from along the road at 10 Airline Drive (in Airline Park), Durham.
Snowy or icy conditions on the trail may result in an alternate hike location, and that decision will be made the morning of the hike, but we will still meet in the same location. Sorry, no dogs due to the car spot.
This hike is being held as part of the NET Fall Hike Series in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the National Trails System and qualifies as part of the NET Hike 50 Challenge Program.
