Event Description:
100 YEARS OF ON-THE-GROUND FORESTRY. James L. Goodwin, one of America's early professional foresters, began planting and growing trees here over 100 years ago. Join Forester Steve Broderick for a one-hour walk through a mature white pine forest, planted by Goodwin after the 1938 hurricane. We'll talk about the rich forestry history here, see forest stands of various ages, talk about the basics of white pine management and discuss an upcoming harvest designed to encourage the growth of younger, more vigorous hardwoods and pines. Half-mile, relatively flat terrain. Dogs on leashes OK.
