First Day Hike at Burr Pond
This hike is a partnership with the Torrington Trails Network, Connecticut Forest and Park Association and Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. The hike will be along the Walcott Blue-Blaze Trail at Burr Pond State Park. Meet at the kiosk by the parking lot.This trail was created by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1936 and named after former United States Senator, Frederic C. Walcott. The trail has many interesting glacial erratics including the Boulder Over Burr (B.O.B.) and the memorial for Phil Buttrick. Event and parking is free, dogs allowed on leash. Bring sturdy hiking boots, water, snacks, and hiking poles if desired.
