Discover Highlawn Forest Youth Series: Bluebird Nest Boxes
Join Master Naturalist Lynn Kochiss and guest expert Master Naturalist Edward Boisits for an afternoon of Eastern Bluebird Nest Box Building. Ed will provide background on the history of the Eastern Bluebird and discuss the role of the nest box initiative in helping to increase populations of these beautiful birds to sustainable levels. Come find out what you can do to help.
Following the presentation, participants will build their own nesting boxes using the kits provided.
All children must be accompanied by an adult for this program.
Edward Boisits received his Ph.D. in biology from St. John’s University in NYC. After a career in the personal products/pharma industries, Edward earned his Master Naturalist certification at the James L. Goodwin State Forest in Hampton. He volunteers at the Flanders Nature Center in Woodbury, CT providing educational environmental programs for children and adults.
Lynn Kochiss is an environmental educator who has been a CFPA volunteer since 2007. She is a certified elementary teacher, a Project Learning Tree Facilitator, and a Goodwin Conservation Center Master Naturalist. Lynn was recognized as a National PLT Outstanding Educator in 2013 for her work in environmental education. Her most recent endeavors for CFPA have focused on programming designed to connect people of all ages to the outdoors.
