CFPA Ramble: Women of the Woods Full Moon Hike at Bluff Head
Women of the Woods or WoW has monthly gatherings for women to enable them to connect with the natural world. Most gatherings are hikes in the woods of central Connecticut. In addition to hiking we take the time to admire the beauty around us, experience some quiet time in nature, and enjoy each others company.
Women, join Women of the Woods, for a 3.5-mile hike at Bluff Head in northern Guilford. We will enjoy a hike in these nice woods looping around to the top of Bluff Head for beautiful view down to Long Island Sound if it is clear. We will do a car shuttle and hike up to Bluff Head from the north. There are some extended up hill portions to the hike as well as some steep sections, both up and down on this hike. We will take our time, but hiking boots with good tread are required for this hike. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and we will be able to see the moon rise both from a view point and off the the east was we walk the ridge back down. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp to augment the moon light for the last portion of our hike.
Please wear hiking boots with good tread. Please bring a pack with water, a jacket and a sack supper or a snack. Hiking poles are also strongly recommended for the hike down after sunset. I suggest you dress in non-cotton layers so you can remove layers if you get hot and put them back on when we stop or slow down. Cotton is cold when it is wet, so it I recommend wool or synthetic clothing in spring to avoid getting chilled.
