Event Description:

Join the Happy Homeschool Hikers of Hamden on another adventure. This series is targeted to homeschool students and their families as we explore the Blue-Blazed Hiking Trails.

Across the past few years we have enjoyed steep hikes up to Chauncey Peak along the Mattabesett Trail at Giuffrida Park in Meriden. A brand-new re-route of that steep section of the New England Trail offers a fresh perspective on this favorite hike, following carefully-crafted switchbacks featuring winter views of Crescent Lake and jagged, talus slopes below exposures of the basalt rock faces above. The new trail meets with the old trail near the southern-facing outcrops atop Chauncey Peak. We will enjoy this newly-created trail (made by CFPA volunteers and a hard-working SCA trail crew), up to the top, hike along the ridge, and head back along the City of Meriden Park trails through Giuffrida Park. Come view this spring-time favorite in a new light on a new path!

As always, please pack water, snacks and dress appropriately for the conditions.

The hike will be led by CFPA Junior Conservation Ambassadors Liam & Jack, along with their father, Riley Flanagan-Brown, an American Red Cross First Aid/CPR-trained CFPA Ramble Guide.

As a program of the Connecticut Forest & Park Association, CFPA Rambles are intended to bring people, fun, and the outdoors together. Led by trained CFPA Ramble Guides, these FREE, engaging outings are offered on trails around the state every month throughout the year. Each CFPA Ramble is designed to show the people of Connecticut how easy and enjoyable a ramble can be and to feature the many different outdoor opportunities our state has to offer.

To prepare for a safe and enjoyable CFPA Ramble:

  1. Be ready to begin the Ramble at the scheduled start time;
  2. Bring water, snack, and your excitement;
  3. Leave pets at home (unless otherwise noted);
  4. Wear sturdy shoes; and
  5. Kids, please remember to bring your parents or caregivers.
