Event Description:

Join us on an adventure as we walk through upland forest and wetlands to unusual interior sand plains. We will look for rare insects and vegetation not common in interior Connecticut. This little used park is home to interesting wildlife that we may encounter or see signs of them such as tracks in the sand. We will also examine pitch pines for evidence of the new insect invader, southern pine beetle.

We will meet in the commuter lot located just west of the I-291 junction with Rt. 218 (Putnam Hwy) in the back of the lot near a bus shelter where a trail leads us about 1.5 miles to the sand dunes. This trail is fairly level but can be overgrown in places. This trail can be muddy as well so dress appropriately.
