This hike is for the University of Hartford Magnet school students and their families only. 

Join UHMS friends for a hike through blossoming Mountain Laurel, our CT state flower, as we make our way to a mountaintop rock cairn. We will hike a 2.5-mile section of the Blue-Blazed Metacomet Trail in Bloomfield's Penwood State Park.

UHMS students are all welcome and must be accompanied by a responsible adult. The trail is slightly rugged and hill, sturdy shoes or sneakers are recommended. No dogs, please. Registration is required and can be completed by emailing Anne at ashemkovitz@crec.org.

Anne Shemkovitz is a trained CFPA Ramble Guide and faculty member of the University of Hartford Magnet School.

*Please note that while the park is in Bloomfield, the address for the parking area is Simsbury

As a program of the Connecticut Forest & Park Association, CFPA Rambles are intended to bring people, fun, and the outdoors together. Led by trained CFPA Ramble Guides, these FREE, engaging outings are offered on trails around the state every month throughout the year. Each CFPA Ramble is designed to show the people of Connecticut how easy and enjoyable a ramble can be and to feature the many different outdoor opportunities our state has to offer.

To prepare for a safe and enjoyable CFPA Ramble:

  1. Be ready to begin the Ramble at the scheduled start time;
  2. Bring water, snack, and your excitement;
  3. Leave pets at home (unless otherwise noted);
  4. Wear sturdy shoes; and
  5. Kids, please remember to bring your parents or caregivers.
