Programs
The Connecticut Forest & Park Association's professional staff and volunteers deliver outstanding programs designed to "Conserve", "Connect", "Advocate", and "Educate".
CONSERVE: CFPA works with private and public landowners throughout Connecticut to protect important natural areas, public recreational opportunities and working forests/agricultural lands. With multiple public and private partners and volunteers, CFPA works to acquire land, develop conservation easements, and maintain the 825-mile Blue-Blazed Hiking Trail System.
CONNECT: WalkCT is a program whose objective is to connect urban, suburban and rural walkways and trails to benefit the health and happiness of Connecticut citizens. WalkCT will link greenways, sidewalks, and park paths together and with public transportation. It will also increase opportunities for ecotourism and provide links to visiting cultural destinations.
ADVOCATE: Since 1897, CFPA has published a progressive legislative "Agenda for State Action" every year. Securing adequate funding for Connecticut's state parks, forests, and open space acquisitions, supporting sustainable working forests and agricultural lands, and protecting compatible uses of hiking trails are ongoing priorities. You may view our most recent "Agenda for State Action".
EDUCATE: CFPA supports content-rich education programs for K-12 students and teachers utilizing the multi-disciplinary Project Learning Tree curriculum. At the heart of our educational programs is our interpretive use of the 200-acre John R. Camp Outdoor Classroom and Demonstration Forest adjacent to our headquarters in Rockfall. CFPA also supports continuing education programs for private landowners (Coverts project) and forestry management professionals (Forestry Forums). CFPA and its volunteers lead Family Hikes on the last weekend of each month.
