Notice: Regulated Deer Hunt Underway Adjacent to Tunxis Trail

The CT DEP Wildlife Division in cooperation with the Metropolitan District (MDC) is administering a regulated deer hunt on a portion of MDC property in the Nepaug Reservoir watershed (Sept. 24-Dec. 31, 2009). The Tunxis Trail beginning at Southeast Road in New Hartford heading south toward Hotchkiss Road in Burlington borders the hunt area. Signs alerting hikers of the hunt have been posted. Hikers are strongly advised to stay on the trail and wear orange. The purpose of the regulated hunt is to manage the deer herd in order to promote forest regeneration and protect reservoir water quality.
