By Joe Prosek Review From Amazon.com James Prosek is angling's wunderkind. A recent Yale graduate, he debuted in 1996 at age 20 with the well-received Trout: An Illustrated History, in which his precocityb with both words and watercolors were charmingly displayed. Joe and Me is a more personal and complex volume, a memoir of a relationship-in-progress that began five years ago when Prosek was caught poaching on Connecticut's Aspetuck River by warden Joe Haines. What follows is an engaging tale of how much the warden and poacher have to teach each other. Prosek's prose has a few glitches, but he's young and can be forgiven; his watercolors, which run throughout, are a catch in themselves. |

The Connecticut Guide by Amy Ziffer
Amy Ziffer, author of The Connecticut Guide, has assembled a comprehensive and easy-to-use travel guide to the Constitution State. Despite being the third smallest state in the nation, Connecticut has a remarkably diverse landscape, a wide range of recreational settings, and a rich human history. All of this can be discovered within a few hours' travel time. Ms. Ziffer describes the book as, "modest attempt to take a snapshot of Connecticut in the late 1990s so visitors and residents alike can appreciate its uniqueness, for it is the unique qualities of a place that make us want to visit it, know it, care for it and return to it." The Guide is the perfect traveler's companion to the countless wonders Connecticut has to offer. It is organized by major geographic regions and specific destinations, and |
|
provides a wealth of detailed information, including: historic attractions and cultural highlights; festivals and events; outdoor activities such as boating, fishing, hiking and biking; scenic drives and seasonal favorites; detailed descriptions of accommodations and restaurants; and visitor information and services. In addition, a short history of each destination is given. Amy Ziffer is an editor, writer and photographer from Sherman, CT. Her book is illustrated with many of her own photographs of Connecticut's natural landscape. She is also a CFPA member who has kindly donated the use of her photos for Connecticut Woodlands magazine. Her love for the outdoors led to the study of landscape design, and in 1998 she began doing residential landscaping under the name, "A Shady Lady Garden Design." |
