CFPA's  Education Programs

Where learning happens... naturally!


Registration Information

Location
Field studies are all held at the Connecticut Forest & Park Association’s (CFPA) John R. Camp Outdoor Classroom and Demonstration Forest in Middlefield unless otherwise noted.  Arrangements can be made to conduct field studies at other CFPA lands, state parks, state forests or school property.  CFPA’s meeting room, restrooms and Outdoor Classroom & Demonstration Forest are wheelchair accessible.


Program length

Students and Scouts: 1 - 2 hours, depending on program
Educator workshops:  3 - 6 hours, depending on program


Group size

25 students maximum; special arrangements may be made for larger groups; 1 chaperone/10 students in grades PreK-5 is required.


Fees

Full payment is required upon arrival; purchase orders accepted.  A grant to CFPA from the USDA Forest Service is available to alleviate partial busing costs for priority school districts; offered on a limited basis.

For Connecting Arts & The Environment and Living Lab Field Studies:
·    $5.00 per student, minimum of $75.00
·    Teachers who have participated in PLT professional development workshops will receive a discount for programs held in the John R.  Camp Outdoor Classroom & Demonstration Forest: $3.00/student, minimum $50.00
·    Programs held at your site: $6.00/student, minimum of $100.00 + mileage

For Seasonal Explorations and Scout Programs:
·    $3.00/student for guided explorations or
     $2.00/student for self-guided explorations (PLT certified educators only)


Cancellations/Refund policy

Cancellations must be made two weeks prior to field trip date.  Cancellations made later than that will be charged a $25.00 administrative fee.  Cancellations made due to severe weather or by CFPA will be rescheduled or refunded. Programs run rain or shine; severe weather cancels and program will be rescheduled or refunded. Indoor activities may be able to be substituted for outdoor components due to inclement weather.


Standards and Frameworks

CFPA is able to work with teachers to integrate activities into local curricula.  Activities are correlated to National Education Standards and Connecticut Framework K-12 Curricular Goals and Standards.  Visit the Student Programs page for correlations.


Lunch

Groups are welcome to picnic on the lawn or use the indoor meeting room if scheduled; CFPA requests students use recyclable and/or reusable containers and carry out their trash.
