2010 Connecticut Forest Assessment

Come Shape the Future of Connecticut's Forests

Connecticut is one of the most heavily forested states in America. Our forests clean our air and water, shelter our wildlife, sequester carbon, contribute tens of millions of dollars to our economy, and add immeasurably to the quality of our everyday lives.

And yet every day, those forests are under threat by invasive insects, diseases, and our dense and growing human population. Conserving a healthy forest for future generations will require action. Join us in developing a comprehensive forest resource plan before it is too late. Take part in the roundtable sessions in February and March.

The roundtable process that will be employed has been used successfully to guide planning and policy in hundreds of forums around the world, including the most recent World Forestry Congress. The local roundtables will utilize discussion results from Connecticut's 5th Annual Forest Forum, held in November.

The roundtable results will guide completion of Connecticut's federally mandated Forest Resource Assessment and Strategy, and provide input to Connecticut's Comprehensive Plan of Conservation and Development. Partners in this effort include:

  • The Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection
  • The Connecticut Forest & Park Association
  • The University of Connecticut College of Agriculture & Natural Resources
  • Highstead
  • The Society of American Foresters, Connecticut Chapter
  • The Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station
  • The Connecticut Urban Forest Council

Don't delay and register today! The future of our forests depends on it.
